Competence

Web development

I have skills in both back and front office development through working on many projects over the years. Together with this I have additionally gained competence in producing graphs and maps, using GD, and data export to Word, Excel and PDF. Development environments include HTML5, MySQL, PHP, Perl and JQuery / Javascript.

Databases

Database table design, schemas and optimisation are specific areas that I have worked on. I also have experience in user security / management, with phpMyAdmin to manage databases. MySQL and MariaDB have been the main back end databases which I have worked with.

Web & IT administration

Since 1995 my work on web hosting has allowed me to gain specialist knowledge on web server setups, configuration and maintenance. I have used the web server Apache in various environments for over 20 years. Additional areas of competence include DNS (Domain name server) management, SSL for web site encryption and VMWare ESXi virtualisation environments.

Email services

I have setup, managed and supported various email platforms on Linux over the years. My knowledge in Linux administration and networking has helped in this domain. Email servers have ranged from a combination of Postfix and Dovecot to Zimbra. I have knowledge in email delivery ensuring that email signing and authorisation are handled using DKIM, DMARC and SPF.

Web & IT Lead

As one of the founders of the company my responsibilities have been wide in their definition. Our initial projects were client web development and our in house site hosting (one of the first in France). This expanded as time went on for specific development projects and then the creation of the PrivateRelay email service. Projects include:

PrivateRelay (2014-Present)
In 2014 PrivateRelay, a collaborative email service was launched. As IT lead I was responsible for the majority of front and back office development. The service has since grown with clients from around the world. During the time working on the project I gained an array of knowledge in email delivery and signing.

Conference IT Services (2002-Present)
Abstract handling and conference registration have also been other key areas of my work. I have been one of the main developers on a number of abstract submission / scoring systems, session planning / programmes and conference delegate registration. Working as a full stack developer on both the back office database and the user side for abstract submitters, scoring team and delegate registration.

EuroFlu (WHO) / EISS (1997-2014)
I worked as IT Project leader for the European Influenza Surveillance Scheme (EISS), later rebranded as EuroFlu when run by WHO Europe. Clinical and virological data were submitted into the web site from European institutions. A weekly bulletin was then prepared with country specific graphs and maps. The epidemiological head of the group then added the text. The bulletins were pivotal in the surveillance of influenza in Europe from 1997.

I have also developed a back office utility to give our clients the ability to modify their web site menus, and HTML pages using a WYSIWIG editor. This emulates a CMS without the security concerns of these products.
Managed virtualisation server environments using VMWare ESXi are another area of my expertise.
